One of my passions is to meet people and then imitate them. I love doing that.
Veronica Franco: I confess that as a young girl I loved a man who would not marry me for want of a dowry. I confess I had a mother who taught me a different way of life, one I resisted at first but learned to embrace. I confess I became a courtesan, traded yearning for power, welcomed many rather than be owned by one. I confess I embraced a whore's freedom over a wife's obedience. I confess I find more ecstacy in passion than in prayer. Such passion is prayer. I confess I pray still to feel the touch of my lover's lips. His hands upon me, his arms enfolding me... Such surrender has been mine. I confess I pray still to be filled and enflamed. To melt into the dream of us, beyond this troubled place, to where we are not even ourselves. To know that always, this is mine. If this had not been mine-if I had lived any other way-a child to her husband's will, my soul hardened from lack of touch and lack of love... I confess such endless days and nights would be a punishment far greater than you could ever mete out. You, all of you, you who hunger so for what I give yet cannot bear to see that kind of power in a woman. You call God's greatest gift-ourselves, our yearning, our need to love-you call it filth and sin and heresy... I repent there was no other way open to me. I do not repent my life.
Animals, they are one of the most beautiful gifts we have and, you know, if there are people that have compassion, there are very few people that put their money into animal rescue organizations. And if there is someone that has that passion, animals need all the help they can get.
Jake: I know your true passion theory about two people destined to be together, but we can't all be filled with that much faith, trust and emotion. It just means if you have someone you're not alone. You're not going to find that in some fairy tale romance. Sometimes you have to sit through low times where you don't necessarily feel overwhelmingly, totally in love all the time.
Principal Himbry: So. Two of your fellow students, just savagely murdered, and this is the way that you show your compassion and sensitivity, huh? Let me tell you something. [pause] Principal Himbry: You're both expelled. Get out! Expelled Teen #1: Aw, come on, Mr. Himbry, it was just a joke! Expelled Teen #2: That is not fair! Principal Himbry: You're absolutely right. It is not fair. Fairness would be to rip your insides out and hang you from a tree so we can expose you for the heartless, desensitized little shits that you are!
Hood 1: Hey, who do you think you are, huh? Garth: Just a dumb kid, Hub. Don't kill him. Hub: [to Garth] Right. [Grabs Hood 1 by the throat] Hub: I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!
Keep a Child Alive is my passion and my mission.
Queen Amidala: [speaking to Chancellor Palpatine] It is clear to me now that the Republic no longer functions. I pray you will bring sanity and compassion back to the Senate.
Charlie Mackenzie: Harriet. Harry-ette. Hard-hearted harbinger of haggis. Beautiful, bemuse-ed, bellicose butcher. Un-trust... ing. Un-know... ing. Un-love... ed? "He wants you back," he screamed into the night air like a fireman going to a window that has no fire... except the passion of his heart. I am lonely. It's really hard. This poem... sucks.
Ann Field: I have a passion for what I do. You're sleepwalking through life if you don't. Rob Baskin: Loving what you do is a luxury most of us can't afford. Ann Field: Just the opposite. Most people can't afford NOT to do what they love. Life's too short.
Joe Black: Are you threatening me? William Parrish: Yeah, I certainly hope so. Yeah. I loved Susan from the moment she was born, and I love her now and every minute in between. And what I dream of is a man who will discover her, and that she will discover a man who will love her, who is worthy of her, who is of this world, of this time, and has the grace, compassion and fortitude to walk beside her as she makes her way through this beautiful thing called life.
George Delvin: Get rid of your pity and compassion for the guilty!
Dracula: [carrying Essie out instead of Mina] You will be my bride throughout eternity. We'll share the endless passion of immortal love. Essie: Oh I can't wait! Dracula: [stares at her in surprise] NOT YOU! Dracula: [takes her back inside and throws heron the floor, and carries Mina out, speaking very fast] You will be my bride throughout eternity, we'll share the endless passion of immortal love!
Daryl Zero: Passion is the enemy of precision. Forget the misnomer 'crime of passion'. All crime is passionate. It's passion that moves the criminal to act, to disrupt the static inertia of morality. The client's passion for this dead woman had facilitated his downfall. And the blackmailer's passion will facilitate hers. When you live with no passion at all, other people's passion come into glaring relief.
Rod Blank: Capturing the essence of the culture you're doing is extremely important. For example, French passion my go something like this, "ohhhhh"; where as in Germany, it's like this, "ohhhhh". Harold Asailian, Jr.: So then sub-titles would be out of the question? Rod Blank: Lovemaking is an international language. It doesn't need sub-titles!
Chi Trang: We create the world we want to live in. [Chi hands a laminated photo of the Mandala of Compassion to Brandi, who studies it] Chi Trang: Do you believe you can? [pause] Chi Trang: I've got bills to pay, don't you? Let's make some money. Brandi: [under her breath] Okay.
P.J.Pete: It is endemic to our society that those of large stature are overlooked, except by vultures. They do not notice the depth of our feelings, the passion of our hearts, the beauty of our moments. Beret Girl in Cafe: Oh, buddha boy. How could anyone overlook [takes his chin in her hand] Beret Girl in Cafe: such a bundle of yes-ness? Let's dance.
Laura Owens: I admit it, I was amazed. He's nothing like anyone you've ever gone out with before, so what's the change? Lucy Owens: I'm maturing. Laura Owens: Even his name, it's so not you. It's so primal - Adam. Lucy Owens: Yeah, yeah, it's a crap name, all right. Laura Owens: And he reads. He can quote Christina Rossetti. Lucy Owens: Oh. What'd he do that for? Laura Owens: It came up and you know, she's not exactly a household name as a poet so I have to say, I approve totally. I just hope you're ready for you know, whatever happens. Lucy Owens: Oh yeah, I'm full of surprises. So, are you jealous? Laura Owens: Come on, that's unfair. Lucy Owens: [voice over of Lucy thinking to herself] Poor Laura. Of course she's not jealous. Too good-natured. Wouldn't it be deadly, though if it turns out to be me that has this great passion she's always going on about? Laura Owens: Hold on a sec, I just want to buy this Lucy Owens: [voice over continues] Another book. Doesn't she know books won't do it?
Spencer: All the great people in history had passion and love. And that's what I want.
[first lines] Detective Taylor: Neighbors heard them screaming at each other, like for two hours, and it was nothing new. Then they heard the gun go off, both barrels. Crime of passion. William Somerset: Yeah, just look at all the passion on that wall.
Ethan Thomas: So, the judge thinks we should offer your client a new plea agreement. Apparently she thinks the community would be better served without this trial. Erin Bruner: How do you feel about it, personally? Ethan Thomas: My job is to represent the interest of the people, make an effort to be objective. Erin Bruner: Hm. I ask because I know you're a Churchgoer. Now you're sent to prosecute a man of God. Ethan Thomas: Your priest broke the law and a young girl is dead. If he's a man of God then personally I think he's even more subject to the laws of moral behavior and punishment. If it were up to me he'd get no deal at all. Erin Bruner: What about forgiveness and compassion? Isn't that part of your Creed or does that just get in the way of your work? Ethan Thomas: If you have compassion for your client, counselor, you'll persuade him to accept this: Charges reduced to reckless endangerment, 12 months in a county jail, reducible to 6 plus probation if he can stay out of trouble. Somehow I expect he can manage that, but please understand me... if he refuses I will seek the maximum.
Mickey Gravatski: Remember when I asked you if you could stop killing? And you said that if the seeds that were buried in darkness were never plant... James Lemac: ...were never planted, that I might be able to capture the innocence that I never had. Mickey Gravatski: Yeah. I wondered, who planted those seeds? James Lemac: Hmm Mickey Gravatski: She took you down there and left you there, huh? James Lemac: Who? What are you talking about? Mickey Gravatski: Did you take me down to that cellar to justify what you do? James Lemac: Not everything is for your fuckin' benefit, Mick. Mickey Gravatski: Right. ya know it just seems like... James Lemac: It seems like what? What? What you think I'm killin' my mother? Mickey Gravatski: Yeah. It's obvious. I mean in your mind you think you are. But in reality you're killing innocent women. James Lemac: Look do me a favor, all right? Remove those eight women from the equation, what do ya got? Mickey Gravatski: Wait, how do you remove eight women laying in pools of their own blood, with their eyes taken out? James Lemac: Am I beneath compassion? Mickey Gravatski: What? What compassion did you have? James Lemac: Look I'm just asking you. Just try to remove them from the equation. If you remove them from the equation... Mickey Gravatski: It's not an equation! It's not an equation, it's life! It's body identifications. It's funerals. It's families torn apart. It's moms taking sleeping pills, praying to God that when they wake up their daughters are still alive. James Lemac: Ya know what's confusing you? You see parts of me in yourself, and that makes me human. Mickey Gravatski: You're fuckin' nuts. James Lemac: No, I'm not nuts. But you also see yourself in me. The potential we all have. Mickey Gravatski: "Potential." Potential is not action, action is what defines us. James Lemac: You gotta ask yourself one question. You gotta ask yourself if you still wanna find the human behind the monster. Because if you don't, this whole documentary is a waste. Come on, ya hungry? Mickey Gravatski: Sh-yeah, I haven't had an appetite since I met you.
Alexander Harris: Avoid all vice and passion - it preys on human frailty
Austin: Imagine a machine feeling compassion for humans.
Robert Angier: My passion is equal to the task.
Katarin: Your form is weak, lacking passion. Rayne: It was part of my plan. I am tiring you out. Katarin: Your plan is lacking passion as well.
