Stephen C. Meyer: We don't know what caused life to arise. Did it arise by purely undirected process? Or did it arise by some kind of intelligent guidance or design? And the rules of science are being applied to actually foreclose one of the two possible answers that very basic, and fundamental, and important question.
Eugene Cernan: [referring to Apollo 17's liftoff] I had control of that vehicle right in the palm of my hands. If the guidance failed or started to stray or went somewhere we didn't like or the ground didn't like, I could flip a switch, and I could control seven, over seven and a half million pounds of thrust with this handle and fly the thing to the Moon myself. And I guarantee you, I had practiced it and trained for it so many times, I almost dared, I almost dared her to quit on me. Every breath she breathed, I breathed with her. She was, she was uniquely something special, and what a hell of a ride she gave us.
First Ancestor: We must send the most powerful of all. Mushu: Okay, okay. I get the drift. I'll go. [Ancestors laugh] Mushu: Oh, y'all don't think I can do it? Watch this here! Mushu: [breathes a very small flame] Aha! Jump back. I'm pretty hot, huh? Don't make me have to singe nobody to prove no point. First Ancestor: You had your chance to protect the Fa family. Old Female Ancestor: Your misguidance led Fa Deng to disaster! Fa Deng: [holding his severed head] Yeah, thanks a lot.
We're here for a reason. I believe a bit of the reason is to throw little torches out to lead people through the dark.
I was not sure where I was going, and I could not see what I would do when I got [there]. But you saw further and clearer than I, and you opened the seas before my ship, whose track led me across the waters to a place I had never dreamed of, and which you were even then preparing to be my rescue and my shelter and my home.
No man is great enough or wise enough for any of us to surrender our destiny to. The only way in which anyone can lead us is to restore to us the belief in our own guidance.
The art of writing is the art of discovering what you believe.
We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own.
