Luc: You know, I am feeling some very strange emotions right now. Guilt, remorse, my self-esteem is rock bottom. I am trying to think, what can I possibly do to say I'm sorry? Kate: Shut up! You haven't spent sixty seconds with me when you weren't after something, so what is it this time? Buy, sell, or trade? Luc: Oui, it is so true. I used you... a lot. You helped me to get my vine and I left you with nothing. So now, I ask myself what I can possibly do to make it up to you. [sees the police waiting for him] Luc: And so now, I am here for you. [runs away]
Portia: I like you. I even understand you some of the time. But I'm not about to invest my emotions in a machine.
Ripcord: Look, I think you and me got off on the wrong foot. See, I'm attracted to you. And you, you're attracted to me. And him, the damn Zen master, he creeps me out. What I'm trying to say is... Shana 'Scarlett' O'Hara: We're attracted to each other. Ripcord: Thank you! Shana 'Scarlett' O'Hara: [cuts him off] That's what your saying. It's not what I'm saying. Ripcord: It's not. So, what are you saying? Shana 'Scarlett' O'Hara: Attraction is an emotion. Emotions are not based on science. And if you can't quantify or prove that something exists, well, then in my mind, it doesn't. Ripcord: Okay. I'll get back to you on that one.
Stan: Fear is the main motivation for everything. That and guilt, are the two emotions that keep a society humming.
David: [while playing pool] I guess there's limits to what money can buy. John: Not many. Diana: Well some things aren't for sale. John: Such as? Diana: Well you can't buy people. John: That's naive, Diana. I buy people every day. Diana: In business, maybe, but you can't buy people not when real emotions are involved. John: So you're saying you can't buy love? That's a bit of a cliché don't you think? Diana: It's absolutely true. John: Is it? What do you think? David: I agree with Diana. John: You do? Well let's test the cliché. Suppose... I were to offer you one million dollars for one night with your wife. David: I'd assume you're kidding. John: Let's pretend I'm not. What would you say? Diana: He'd tell you to go to hell. John: I didn't hear him. David: I'd tell you to go to hell. John: That's a reflex answer because you view the question as hypothetical. But let's say that there was real money backing it up. I'm not kidding. A million dollars. The night would come and go but the money could last a lifetime. Think of it. A million dollars. A lifetime of security... for one night. Don't answer right away. Just consider it; seriously? David: We're positive, okay? John: Well then you've proved your point. There are limits to what money can buy. It's late, and I hate to admit it, but I have meetings in the morning. May I have one dance? With your permission. David: You know something? I think you better hurry on to that meeting. You don't want to miss out on your next billion. John: Understood. I wouldn't part with her either. Good night.
Jay Murphy: It's hard to tell how many emotions were real and how many were manufactured just to get the other person to bring over more pot.
Sam Deed: [Ruby is relating to her therapist what Sam said about love and time and we cut to witness it] Your heart is like a clock measuring time and one's emotional state determines the flow of time. It speeds it up or slows it down. Ruby: So, time is a personal thing? Sam Deed: Yes. Sure. Ruby: Time is an emotional thing. That's what you're saying? Ruby: Yeah, yeah, sure. Don't bad things always seem to last longer than good ones? But good things seem to just fly by... like the best times in life. Ruby: Yeah... Sam Deed: Like what? Ruby: Like... Sam Deed: Like falling in love. Ruby: [Dreamy look in her eyes and tone in her voice] Yeah... [Suddenly she jerks] Ruby: Oh, my God! I'm late for work. I totally spaced. Sam Deed: See what I mean? Ruby: [Ruby looks at him with mixed emotions and not quite knowing what to say. She then narrates:] That was the morning we first met. [We see her sweetly wave goodbye to him]
The Filmmaker: Film has the power to stir our emotions and shake our souls. But when you're with the one you love, every moment is like the greatest movie ever made.
Colleen: Emotions are ephemeral, like flowers and beauty. When they appear, it's your duty to appreciate them.
The Caller: Stu, you just gave that man $10 to walk away and saved his life. You have human emotions after all.
Earl Unger: I can't tell you how much I appreciate you hitting me with a minivan. Burton Jernigan: Never let your emotions get the best of you. You weren't paying attention. You should have been more vigilant. Earl Unger: You should've taken driver's ed. I'm gonna have bad knees when I'm old and I'll have Burton Jernigan to thank.
Mel: Sometimes I wish that you could just hit the sack and never wake up. If your favorite song never ended, or your best book never closed, if the emotions mustered from these things would just go on and on, who wouldn't want to stay asleep? The guy who discovers that perpetual dream, he's my man.
Mara Chaffee: You are thinking of the one who died David McGowan: She was to be my partner Mara Chaffee: Yes it's true. Without a mate you are of less importance to us and your development of emotions is disturbing. We can't leave you behind David, it's time we resolved this.
I think my tactics and my game-plan prevailed over my emotions. That is something I am really happy about.
